Gorgon II Aqaba, Jordan
You'd never know this was part of the same reef as its sister site, Gorgon I - that is, until you notice the same striking fan corals protruding defiantly from the surrounding reef. There's plenty to see before we get that far, though, and this site offers some very different topography from her Gorgon sister...

Gorgon II: Dive Site Overview
Green turtles graze on the sea grass meadow that surrounds the shallows of Gorgon II, but we're not here for them. After a 5-minute swim over diverse and shallow coral similar to Gorgon I we come to a sandy-bottomed valley. Here we begin heading downward, we venture out in seek of the site's namesakes.

Before we meet the Gorgons, we'll pass a group of shallow pinnacles - another dive site known as the Seven Sisters and travel among moray eels, lionfish and coral groupers as we continue our descent along the bottom.

And there they are: The first of 2 massive gorgonian corals waves softly on the tide at 20 m. Further out we'll pass the second, a little deeper at 30 m (this one's bowed nearly in half; waving a permanent greeting to divers).
If we continue further out we'll end up in New Canyon - a dive of its own into a deep-walled canyon leading to a sudden drop off into the deep blue at 40 m.
